The Beatles: John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Ringo Starr, plus George Martin, Yoko Ono, Billy Preston.
The infamous and riveting 1970 documentary of The Beatles rehearsing and recording songs for the album Let It Be in January 1969. The film features an unannounced rooftop concert by the group, their last performance in public. Distributed just after the album, it was the final original Beatles motion picture release. Originally planned as a television documentary (with the working title Get Back) to accompany a concert broadcast, when plans for a broadcast were dropped, the project became a feature film--a cinema verte account which does dwell on the dissension within the group at the times and provides some glimpses into the dynamics that would lead to The Beatles' break-up. Nonetheless, it is also peppered with their trademark charm and biting humor and some fine musical performances. A snapshot of the end of an era: one for the time capsule. Not to be missed.
